What Is Chemetal?
Chemetal is a collection of metal decorative surfaces designed primarily for vertical and light-duty horizontal installations. The range includes everything from subtle brushed aluminium laminates to bold, patterned, mirrored, and aged-metal effects.
Most of the G-Tex Chemetal range is produced using anodised aluminium, with a small number of designs featuring brass or steel bases. Depending on the selected product, Chemetal is available in a range of standard sheet dimensions; 8’ x 2’ / 8’ x 4’/10’ x 2’ / 10’ x 4’.
The materials can also be cut, bent, wrapped, and formed to suit more complex installations. This makes the range suitable for everything from straightforward anodised aluminium cladding panels to bespoke counters, bars, furniture, and architectural features.
Why Anodised Aluminium Cladding Works in Contemporary Interiors
Designers and fabricators are turning to aluminium because it can meet an enormous variety of project requirements. Anodised aluminium cladding has a protective oxide layer that hardens the surface, improving its resistance to abrasion while preserving the appearance of the metal beneath.

Because anodising becomes part of the aluminium surface, the finish will not peel or flake like a conventional applied paint coating.
From Aluminium Wall Cladding to Countertops and Furniture

• Interior wall cladding: Anodised aluminium sheet cladding can create sleek, continuous surfaces or distinctive feature walls in hospitality, retail, workplace, and residential settings.
• Bars and counters: Selected finishes can be used for light-duty horizontal installations and vertical counter fronts. Chemetal #310 Antique Brushed, for example, was used to create the distinctive finish seen on the Genting Arena bar.
• Furniture and cabinetry: Thin and flexible aluminium sheets can be applied to desks, cabinets, doors, shelving, and bespoke furniture components.
• Ceilings and architectural details: Aluminium’s low weight makes it well suited to ceiling features, columns, trims, decorative panels, and other interior details.

Metal-Only Sheets, With Backer and HPL Aluminium Laminates
The Chemetal collection consists of metal-only sheets, with backer options or H.P.L (High pressure laminates.)
The 100, 400, 500, 600, and 900 Series are generally supplied as metal-only materials. Their thin and flexible construction makes them suitable for bending, folding, wrapping, and applying across shaped interior features.
However, material can be ordered with a backer option, giving additional support to the material for more structured designs.

The 200, 300, 700, and 800 Series are mostly H.P.L materials, meaning they are high pressure laminates.
These laminated aluminium panels combine a genuine metal surface with additional support (an even tougher, rigid, base than our ‘with backer’ options.)
Making them suitable for a broad range of decorative interior applications and high traffic areas.

The relevant technical data sheet should always be checked before specification, as the precise construction, available sizes, and recommended installation method vary between products.
How Are Chemetal and Aluminium Laminates Applied?
Most Chemetal products can be installed using a suitable contact adhesive. This allows the sheets to be bonded directly to an appropriate substrate, creating a clean surface without visible fixings.
For products within the 100 Series, mechanical fasteners are generally recommended instead. As installation requirements differ throughout the collection, designers, fabricators, and contractors should refer to the technical data for their selected finish before beginning an application.
Performance and Practicality
While the surface appeal is obvious, aluminium’s other major advantage is its practicality. It is lightweight (around one-third the density of steel) while remaining robust when formed and properly supported.
Maintenance is minimal, with routine cleaning helping to preserve the appearance of the surface. For designers and contractors, anodised aluminium cladding provides a practical way to introduce the depth, texture, and clarity of real metal without placing unnecessary weight on interior features.
